How To Become Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams In 48 Hours

Many of you will know that during this last week, I moved from Spain to Italy. Being a digital nomad has all sorts of strange, weird and wonderful ways of allowing you to experience life, and one of my aims with this blog is to show anyone who wants to be an online service provider, how life can be as a digital nomad.  In this post I am going to recollect my latest move, which is the first time I have ever done this, so you can see that when you want to go somewhere, you simply do it, and go…

It’s a bit random, but I thought I would throw this in here, I found it really funny, I love people watching, so I am sharing it. Before I left Spain I went to one of my old “Blogging” haunts, where I used to go and write many of the posts in this blog, I wanted a final memory from the place, and to say goodbye, and rather strangely, and keeping this real…. this is the last memory Spain provided me with in the video below… In a way this will always remind me how funny life can be there :)

The 48 Hour Journey To Becoming Rich

So, the journey took around 2 days in total, it started at around 3am last Friday morning when I got up to prepare for my 9 hour (not including stops) drive to Barcelona from Malaga, with my husband, 2 kids and my new Tom Tom… I have never used a Tom Tom before and OMG – it’s been amazing, if you are a digital nomad and you drive, get one, it’s the best investment I made this year, seriously… We reduced all our worldly possessions into a Honda Shuttle with a roof box and took off…

We left at 4.30am and arrived in Barcelona at around 5.30pm to be pulled to the side at a ferry port checkpoint by the Guardia Civil (a police officer), this guy told us that there were no ferries sailing from Barcelona to Civitacecchia that day, and I was fit to burst after he said that… we later discovered the Grimaldi ferry lines office which confirmed that my online early check in (hey I’m a VA, we do everything online) was not in vain, and we picked up the tickets for our 22.15 sailing.

7.40pm on Saturday we arrived in Civitacecchia and began our Journey to Le Marche, where we arrived just after midnight on Sunday.

So what has happened since then…

Well, the kids I have to admit are still taking their time to settle in, and I believe my 3 year old would like to return to Spain, however I am hopeful I can convince him this move was worth it. My daughter who is 2 had issues with the ‘wet room’ and demanded a bath, so we now have a large plastic utility container we sit her in that people usually use for storing tomatoes, which seems to be doing the trick, and finally I have my view and my very tasty €1.40 bottle of Pinot Grigio (I know in these video’s I look like an alcoholic, but seriously I like to enjoy a nice glass of Vino with a meal at the end of a day – How can you not when living in countries that produce such great wine at a fraction of the price in the UK!)… The whole reason I waited so long to come to Italy, was the most breathtaking, panoramic view of the countryside here and in the video above, I hope you will catch a glimpse of why I do this, and what becoming a Virtual Assistant could mean for you if you have any inclination at all to live this kind of life and embrace this kind of nomadic freedom, which started for me in Egypt in 2005.

All in all, I thank the heavens for the Internet and for the business I have that allows me to pursue my dreams in life… I am not a millionaire, in fact, I worry about bills, overheads, tax and outgoings just as much as the next average Joe, I think it’s always in our nature to worry about these things, through repetition or habit, but I am, without a doubt, and with all honesty, rich beyond my wildest dreams – (and it took 2 days to get here). Because I am a Virtual Assistant, and I am free, I control my destiny, and you can too, and that is something you can never put a price on. Where do you want to be? Near the Mediterranean coast in a beachfront apartment? In Spain in a villa, or in the French Alps in a log cabin? Maybe a bungalow in Thailand – The choice is yours – This time I chose an old medieval stone building with a panoramic view of the Italian countryside, sunflowers and vineyards as far as the eye can see… It’s my little piece of temporary heaven for the next several months, it’s not difficult to achieve if you have the right mindset to let go of the past and the ties that bind you to your existing life. You can be rich… with life…

At the end of anyone’s life nobody turns around and says, “Did you waste your time or did you use your time productively?” because there is only one way someone can use their time productively and that is to enjoy the experience and the feeling of being alive, if you don’t enjoy your life, it doesn’t matter how successful you were financially, or how ‘rich’ you became in a conventional sense of the word, you wasted the most incredible opportunity of all, which was the chance to stretch the limits and feel how happy you could be while you were alive.

What do you want to do in life? What would make you rich?

There are not words to describe how beautiful Italy looks and where you are staying Michelle!  It is absolutely stunning.

It was great to see the behind the scenes snapshots of you and your family taking the trip and I’m sure the kids will settle, they’re pretty resilient at that age ;-)

Thank you for sharing and yes I totally agree with you the word Rich does not always have to refer to money – its the experiences and memories we create that are our lives and I am so thrilled for you!!

I aim to come to Italy next year, Sorrento hopefully.
This evening I raise my glass to you Michelle and your family because what you do is truely inspiring!!

    Take care
    Tracy

Thanks so much Tracy, I was very happy to film little pieces of my expedition last week and share them :) This is indeed an amazing place, I have only been here a few days and already I can tell how much I am going to miss it when I leave for my next stop which will be Greece. I am just so happy to be able to have the time here to live the Italian life for a while, this is certainly somewhere I could settle.

Here is to seeing you off into Sorrento next year! Cheers and ‘Clink’ :)

Makes me want to pack up our bags and just go somewhere else beyond this 4 boring walls. Does moving from one house to another makes me a digital nomad? Ive moved more than 10 times within the last 4 years :) But seriously now… Im so happy for you Michelle :) Hope your stay in Italy will be filled with precious memories :)

Thanks so much Ella! Just being able to work from anywhere makes you a digital nomad, you just have to make sure you take advantage of the lifestyle :) I hear your last move was into a much better place that you really like, keep moving forward ;)

Absolutely loved your behind the scenes videos, I felt like I was on the journey with you.  I can only imagine how tough it was to leave Spain but Italy and your new home looks beautiful and I know that your family will be very happy there.

I loved your post, in particular your last paragraph, I can see my life heading in the direction that I have wanted for a long time and it doesn’t have anything to do with making lots of money.  We have one life and we need to live it to the fullest.

So I am raising my glass (who doesn’t love a glass of wine at the end of the day :) to you tonight.

    Slainte

Thank you Grainne! It was a good journey overall. Having to leave somewhere you have really enjoyed being is hard, but the nice thing about leaving is that you know you are moving on to somewhere new! It’s not like when I used to go on holiday for a week and have to ‘go back’ afterwards so to speak, we just keep moving forward, on to new and exciting things :)

    Hey Michelle!
I loved the video clips! It really personalized your journey. I’m nearing the one year mark of being my own boss and living a new lifestyle. There have been bumps along the way, but it’s sooo worth it! I could never go back to a brick-and-mortar 9-5 job now. I’d be missing out on so much! The “riches” in my life are the ability to spend quality time with my family. I’m blessed to be doing something that I love for a living as well! All these comments make me want a glass of wine tonight! Ha ha!

Hi Alicia! Thanks so much for the comment and for sharing your experience. Congrats on your 1 year anniversary of breaking away from the old routine! Like you, I love being around for my kids and having choices in life about where I am on what days at what times, it’s a great feeling :)

Hello Michelle and fellow digital nomad,

I loved your post!  I am a military wife and a VA as well and just because of my husband’s job, we get to move every 2 years around the world.  We lived in Italy (Sacile) for nearly 3 years and I loved it!  I opened the shutters in the morning and had a spectacular view to the mountains.  I was in 45 minutes at the beach or in the mountains, depending on which way you drive.  The people were simply amazing!  I did get used to buying in the market instead of the store, since the store was too expensive.  Italy is a place I would go back to anytime.  When we left in 2008 the first stores started to open on Sundays and even some of them were open during siesta.  I did not like that the gas stations were every time on strike when I wanted to go to vacation, but somehow we always got through.  The food is amazing as well.  I really miss Italy. 2 years ago, we were in vacation in Spain and my whole family liked it a lot too.  And yes, no problem when you have to go, you just have to go :) .  People are just so relaxed there.  I loved your videos since they brought back memories from when we lived over there.  Thank you.

Thanks so much Wendy, I have heard becoming a VA is getting popular among military wives, I think it’s a perfect fit!! I loved reading your story and experiences from Italy, I know exactly how you feel, the mountains and the beaches are just stunning, what a wonderful time you must of had! I am also favouring the markets, there is one here every Wednesday, and a fresh fish van every Tuesday where you can buy locally caught fresh fish, it’s superb! Happy travels and thank you so much for the comment :)

Michelle, I have to say that you are quite an inspiration.  I’m still trying to figure it all out, what training I need, and how to get started.  I keep reading and reading, but I think I’m ready to start doing and doing.  I’m so nervous about it, bit I know it will be great.  Thank you so very much for your website, your book down loads, your video blogs and all you do.  I see what you are doing and I know that I can eek out an existence for my kids and myself.   Enjoy your new digs and be sure to share lots of pictures.  Debra Savage

Thank you very much Debra for the feedback, I am so glad you are finding everything helpful. I will indeed try to share as much as I can from my time here! I wish you all the best of luck on your journey to becoming a VA for you and your family, it’s awesome, I love it, I am sure you will too. Best Wishes, Michelle

What a wonderful and honest blog (as always) I share everybody else’s sentiment and wish you every success in your new home, which looks amazing.  Can totally understand why you waited for that view.

Your gorgeous children will adapt quickly and are very lucky to have such a wonderful life and be experiencing so much.

You truly are an inspiration and such a lovely person.  It’s a bit early in the day for me to raise my glass to you but I will this evening ;) .

    Much love,

    Nicky

    • http://virtualassistant-live.com/ Michelle, Virtual Miss Friday

Hi Nicky, thank you very much, that’s so kind. The kids are slowly adapting, as long as we have a routine in place for them they feel comforted by that. I hope they will learn to enjoy their time here, Italian playschool starts in September!

Thanks so much again for the kind words,
      M

Hi Kim! Thanks so much for the comment, I am very happy to be able to share this kind of lifestyle, most people think you need VA’s to be able to live like this, which is true, but you can also be the VA!
It becomes easier to live a dream if you are willing to let go of things, I have let go of a lot in my life, but gained so much more, and I have discovered that really all I need are my family around me and I am happy :)

  • Brelinda
